Toilet Cistern Installation – A Step-By-Step Guide

Although fitting a toilet cistern may not seem as difficult as you might imagine, there are some steps that must be followed. Although the exact instructions for installation will vary from manufacturer to manufacturer, there are some steps that can be applied.

Here are some guidelines to help you install a close-coupled toilet cistern. This is the one that attaches to the back of your toilet pan. There is also a concealed cistern which can be found in an IPS DUCT set. Always consult the manufacturer's instructions and drawings before you start any type of installation.

Installation of a close-knit cistern

Step 1: Open the cistern, and verify that the syphon is in place. Some models already have this done. If the syphon is not installed yet, you will need to attach it using the provided washer and thread.

Step 2: Connect the fill valve that connects to the cistern. You will also find a thread on this fill valve.

Step 3: Place the rubber donut bung. This will seal the toilet pan and cistern. The cistern should now be connected to the toilet. To maintain the water-tight seal, you will need to connect the cistern with the toilet using two bolts.

Step 4: Attach your toilet to the wall and then proceed with the installation.

Installing an IPS cistern concealed

Step 1: Remove the cistern components and verify the drawings. Most likely, you will need to connect your syphon using a thread and washer.

Step 2: Connect the fill valve that connects to the cistern. You will also find a thread on this fill valve.

Step 3: Fit your cistern so the top is at least 900mm away from the floor. This will allow you to adjust the size of your cisterns when installing the toilet pan.

Step 4: Connect the flush pipe to your cistern. It will hang low.

Step 5: Install IPS panels. Next, install the second fix toilet. When it comes to installing wall-hung or back-to wall toilets, the flush pipe should be flexible.
